The trailhead is located at the Bear Creek Staging Area of Briones Regional Park. This beautiful, partially shaded trail takes park patrons along a creek through the heart of Briones Regional Park. Special features include wildlife viewing and seasonal wildflowers. It is accessible year-round. More information can be found on the park website at https://www.ebparks.org/parks/briones.

This trail is nearly entirely navigable on Google Maps as a road, so anyone who is concerned about their ability to make it to the end can check the whole thing beforehand to help them make a decision. Here is a link to the "street" view of the trailhead, which can be followed until it turns off toward the Santos Trail, which is too steep to be considered accessible in my opinion.

Obstacles:
  • Cattle gate at the beginning of the trail
  • There are 3 uphill sections with a ~6.5% grade
  • Cows can block the trail occasionally
  • Rattlesnakes, which are venomous, can be found on this trail
  • California Newts, which produce a powerful neurotoxin transferred through skin contact, can be found on this trail

Accessible Features Nearby
Restrooms, parking (including handicap spaces), water fountains, and picnic tables available at the trailhead. There is a second bathroom and water source partway through the Abrigo Valley Trail. Both are located at the Maud Whalen group campsite,
